Today we started to grow avocado tree at home.
At first we separated the seed from its fruit( you can add fruit to salads or use it in any other recipes that you like). After that we washed the seed and wiped anything that was left on it with a paper towel.
After that we pushed in some toothpicks into the pit (don't go through whole seed, just around 1.27 centimeter deep, we used 4 different toothpicks).
Than we placed the pit over the glass filled with water, having only lower part of the seed in water. The toothpicks will help you to keep it suspended so that the seed isn't covered with water.
If you will grow it at home, make sure that the water will always cover the lower base of the pit, avoid splashing of water when adding some more.
Place the glass by the window with a lot of light and let it grow. You will be able to see some split and steam sprout in about 3-6 weeks from the top and roots will grow at the base.
This fruit has very fragile roots and steam, so be careful when you planting it in a soil and avoid any unnecessary touching of it.
